Hare Krishna Bhaskar prabhu ji.
Let us go step-by-step. Please appreciate that anAtmA is ajnAna-prasUta and
hence anAtmA cannot be ajnAna-Ashraya. Hence, pArisheshyAt, it is only AtmA
i.e. shuddha chaitanya which is ajnAna-Ashraya. [*You have not stated
anything in contradiction to this. You are quoting bhAshya statement
without rebutting this principle. This has led to erroneous understanding
of bhAshya.*]
antah-karaNa being anAtmA cannot be Ashraya of ajnAna.
However, there is pratyaksha in the form of "ajnah aham" which shows that
ahamkAra i.e. antah-karaNa is the Ashraya of ajnAna. We all have unanimous
experience in the form of अज्ञो अस्मि, अहम् अज्ञः which shows that ahamkAra
(antah-karaNa) is the ajnAna-Ashraya.
Following this pratyaksha of ajnAna, AchArya says that ajnAna is
experienced situated in antah-karaNa.
However, since antah-karaNa is ajnAna-prasUta, antah-karaNa cannot be
Ashraya of avidyA. *Period*. This is the golden rule which is logical and
which is stated in as many words in Naishkarmya Siddhi.
That is where AchArya explains the concept of adhyAsa. antah-karaNa and
ajnAna-Ashrayatva are both kalpita and adhyasta in shuddha chaitanya. Since
antah-karaNa is the avachchhedaka of shuddha chaitanya, ajnAna-Ashrayatva
appears to be delimited by antah-karaNa and hence there appears the
perception of ajnAna as antah-karaNa-stha.
That ajnAna cannot be antah-karaNa-stha is obvious on account of
antah-karaNa being anAtmA.
That is what is the meaning of AchArya's statement. If you still carry on
with antah-karaNa as the Ashraya of ajnAna, then you are violating the
golden rule propounded in NS which says ajnAna-prasUta-anAtmA cannot be
ajnAna-Ashraya.
Regards.
