In Br. Up BH 3.5.1, the purvapakshi says

ननु ‘व्युत्थायाथ भिक्षाचर्यं चरन्ति’ इति वर्तमानापदेशात् अर्थवादोऽयम् ; न
विधायकः प्रत्ययः कश्चिच्छ्रूयते लिङ्लोट्तव्यानामन्यतमोऽपि ; तस्मात्
अर्थवादमात्रेण श्रुतिस्मृतिविहितानां यज्ञोपवीतादीनां साधनानां न शक्यते
परित्यागः कारयितुम्

nanu ‘vyutthAyAtha bhikSAcaryaM caranti' iti vartamAnApadezAt arthavAdo'yam
; na vidhAyakaH pratyayaH kazcicchrUyate liGloTtavyAnAmanyatamo'pi ; tasmAt
arthavAdamAtreNa zrutismRtivihitAnAM yajJopavItAdInAM sAdhanAnAM na zakyate
parityAgaH kArayitum

Bhashyakara replies

यत्पुनरुक्तम् , वर्तमानापदेशादर्थवादमात्रमिति — न, . ॥

yatpunaruktam , vartamAnApadezAdarthavAdamAtramiti — na,
audumbarayUpAdividhisamAnatvAdadoSaH

Here bhAshyakAra points out one example from poorva mimAmsA where
audumbarah yUpah bhavati is taken as a vidhi even though bhavati is present
tense in classical Sanskrit. Similarly he is taking bhikSAcaryaM caranti as
a vidhi. So in the veda the lakara forms are fluid.
