Namaste,
------------------------------
*Harivamsha Purana (2.19)*
After Krishna lifted Govardhana and humbled Indra, the king of the gods
offered prayers and made a request to the Lord.
------------------------------
*Indra speaks to Krishna*
O Krishna, I have spoken to the gods and Rishis: the son begotten by me on
Kunti will be foremost in archery, the greatest of the Kurus, and an adept
in the use of weapons. All kings will speak of his learning.
Ever abiding by the duties of a Kshatriya, he alone will be able to slay
one Akshauhini of kings skilled in fighting.
Save you, O Lord, there is none among gods or men who can weaken the power
of his bow or follow the path of his weapons.
O Govinda, he will be your friend and helper in battle. Therefore, at my
request, instruct him in spiritual knowledge.
You know Arjuna and all the worlds well. Regard him as your own, and care
for him as you do for me.
If you protect him in the great battle, even Death will not be able to
extend its influence over him.
O Krishna, know Arjuna as me, and me as identical with your own Self. As I
am one with you, so is Arjuna.
I am your elder brother, for when you acquired the three worlds with your
three steps, you established me as sovereign of the gods.
I know you as fond of truth, truth itself being your strength. Because of
your promise to the gods, they have engaged you in the destruction of their
enemies.
O Krishna, Arjuna—the son of your father’s sister—is my son. As he was your
companion in ages past, so now he will contract deep friendship with you.
O Madhava, as a bull bears its burden, so you must always take care of
him—whether in his house, in your house, or on the battlefield among foes.
------------------------------
*Shri Krishna replies*
O king of gods, out of affection I am bound; therefore, like a servant, I
shall accomplish whatever your son Arjuna commands me.
------------------------------
Such is the Lord’s supreme mercy. Though the Master of all worlds, he
declares himself the servant of his devotee. Truly, the compassion of Shri
Krishna knows no bounds.
------------------------------
*Namo Narayanaya*
