Sureshwara says in VArtika 1.4.371 -

अस्य द्वैतेन्द्रजालस्य यदुपादानकारणम् ।
अज्ञानं तदुपाश्रित्य ब्रह्म कारणमुच्यते ।

It states ajnAna as the upAdAna-kAraNa of magical duality.

Ø Sri SSS observes that vArtikakAra does not deviate from bhAshyakAra and there is no significant difference between these two works. So he hardly taken the vArtikakAra’s vedAntic methodology for the indepth scrutiny. But read somewhere he (Sri SSS) cleared that Sri Sureshwara has not accepted mUlAvidyA like paNchapAdika vivaraNakAra. Though there are traces of acceptance of avidyA as upAdAna for the adhyAsa in vArtika, as per vArtika prakriya barring the popularly known three aspects of avidyA ( jnAnAbhAva, vipareeta grahaNa and saMshaya) there is no fourth impediment or obstacle whatsoever. With this can we infer that above vArtika just saying this ajnAnaM is all nothing but about mere ‘jnAnAbhAva’ !!?? not sure as I am not familiar with bruhadvArtika.

  * With regard to sAyanabhAshya on veda mantra, Sri SSS followers not objecting the very vyAkhyAna and commentaries of post-shankara advaitins with regard to these very particular issues ??
