Its actually part of the pothana bagavatham.Pothana visualises the way the lord comes and writes the poem
Once again, I would like add couple of points regarding the poet Pothana.
Bammera Pothana whois Bhagavatottama is the dearest disciple of Lord Vishnu, The way he describes the things in the Andhra Maha Bhagavata  means , YES , He realaised & visualised mentally the lords arrival, felt the lords karuna, vatsayla, daya.
Often people belives that he is the re-incarination of VEDA VYASA, no more a simple poet, who has experienced the gods presence every where.
Pothana was born into a NIYOGI BRAHMMAIN family at Bammera Village, in  now in VIJAYANAGARA EMPIRE , presently in the Jangaon District Telangana .His father was Kesana and his mother Lakkamamba. He was considered to be a 'Sahaja Kavi' (natural poet), needing no teacher. He was known to be very polite and was an agriculturist by occupation. Though he was a great scholar, he never hesitated to work in the agricultural fields.
one of his BEAUTIFUL Couplets which I cherishes aways:
      - PalikeDidhi Bhagavatamata
      - Palikinchedivadu Ramabhadrundata Ne
      - Palikina Bhavaharamagunata
      - PalikedaVerondu Gaatha PalukagaNela

Translated it means : "That which is spoken is the Bhagavatam and the one who made me speak/chant this is Lord Rama. The result of chanting this (Bhagavatamata) is ultimate freedom, the Liberation of soul. So, let me sing it, since there is no other story better than this (Bhagavatam)."
One of his greatest messages to all of us is that:

      - A honeybee reveling in the honey-sweetness of Hibiscus, would he seek grass flowers?
      - A royal swan swaying in the pure breezes of the Ganges, would he go to the oceans?
      - A nightingale relishing the juices of smooth young leaflets, will he approach rough leaves?
      - A chakora bird blossoming in the moonlight of a full moon, would he go to dark places with thick fog?

      - Minds attention on the lotus-wearer's (God's) divine lotus-feet, a heightened headiness brought on by that nectar-like contemplation
      - In what way will it learn to seek another? Listen good one, what is the point of discussing (it's obvious)?

Namaste sir. Thanks for sharing your views. I agree with you. The gajendra story in the bhagavatham doesn't describe the lord running etc. Its actually part of the pothana bagavatham.Pothana visualises the way the lord comes and writes the poem. It truly shows the lord's karunyam.

Dear Kaushik,                             Yesterday  was Rama Lakshmana Dwadasi as we too celebrated Satnarayana Kadha  and I would likle add couple of point here.
YES, When there exsists the True Bhakthi in the inner core heart, it is true that Object of Desire is LORD.Bhakthi always brings LORD to Bhakta.
As subbu sir supported the views, e.g are vatsalaya, Karuna , Daya automatically comes when you are in tune with the Lord as per the natures requirement. JUst like Prahalada, Gajnedra, Hanuman BHakthi, Kuchela (sudhamas ) bhakthi towards his friend (lord krishna) brings the grace automatically.
I Read some where, When the Arthanadam i.e Gajundra's HUmkar with utlmost devotion , who is Crores of miles away fromthe spot where he was strucked (Ksheera Sagara- Vakunta-Sapta Dwara) & not only that Lord engages her time with Godess Lakshmi (which is more preacious than a normal disciples interest & No one want to be disturbed at that time), After Listining  the True Bhaktha's (GAJENDRA) innercore wish which he utters from his heart (without the lord vishnu, he doesn't know anyone as Pothana says in his Bhagavatam), LORD VISHNU who stays in the Hridaya's of YOGI's rushes to the spot without a second thougt, not even wearing his pithambara, not evening telling to Godess Lakshmi to save & rescue his dearest disciple (Gajendra) and appreas on that spot with full force with his vehcile garuda. You can ask anything to the lors what ever you want.Gajendra just asked his life, nothing more than that and he is confident that he can reach lord wheever he wants.
This is nothing but vatsalya, karuna, daya as you mentioned & Full of Compassion to True BHaktha's.

But there exsists caution aways. Bhakathi should be from inner core heat without any tarka/mimasa/logics, whoosoever you believe, right.
During Daupadi's vastrapaharanam , Draupadi calls krishna as Dwarakadisha, come & save my modesty. This stroy was mentioned to me by Acharya Sadananda:
for a few seconds late in the arrival of Lord krishna, Drapudai questions krishna, swami you took this much time to help me (story only, no reference)Lord answers draupdi, you call me as Dwarakadeesha, so I have to cross all those doars & it took some time to leave dwaraka and reach you.
Had it been you called as Lord Krishna /VIshnu, I should have been rushed to the site immediately without any delay.
This are just my views, no intended for any tarka discussions.

In the bagavtham there is a story of shri krishna taking away rukmini devi.
Rukmini
Devi writes a letter to shri krishna asking him to take her away. But she
is a bit worried if shri krishna might come or not. But the lord indeed
comes to rescue her. In the same way as rukmini devi had doubts, a baktha
too has doubts if the lord is listening to his prayers or if he has
accepted the devotee. This story reminds us that when there is true bakthi
and the object of desire is the lord, the lord shall always bring the
baktha to him. Such is the lord's karuna and daya. Just a few thoughts i
had as tomorrow is the auspicious day of ekadashi.
