PraNAms to all. I felt like posting this in reverence toall Mothers.

I ventured to write a few slokas on my mother in 1995 whenshe left this abode. Madam Maragadam used to teach us some Sanskrit at ChinmayaMission Washington Regional Center. Internet groups were forming at that time.These slokas I wrote keeping up with the simple anushtup chandas. My heartfulthanks to Shree Praveen R. Bhat, who corrected some of the grammatical mistakesin the original slokas. If you feel some corrections are needed please let meknow. 

Through these slokas, I am trying to express my deepreverence to my mother, Smt. Jayalakshmi. My father was a great Sanskrit andTelugu School and a staunch Vishishtadvaitin and has published extensively. Someof his works were published by TTD and Andhra Sahitya Academy. 

I am recollecting an incident that happened when I was tenyears old, which left a strong impression in my mind. A young boy of my ageapproached my mother and requested for the food for one day a week, as healready got a commitment for all other days of the week from differentfamilies. My mother readily agreed without knowing that my father alreadyvetoed the request since we already had many students studying in the house onhis meager teacher’s salary. When confronted by my father, my mother repliedwith tearful eyes that she would forgo her food on that day and feed that boyso that he can study. In the end, he ended up having two days a week and successfullycompleted his studies. My heart gets choked whenever I recall that incident.

मातृवन्दनम्

नमामि मातरं देवीं सदाशोभप्रदायिनीम्

सर्वेषां श्रेयोकाङ्क्षींसदा शान्तस्वरूपिणीम्॥

जयलक्ष्मीं शेषाचार्यपत्नींख्यातिं तथैव च।|

सहधर्मचारिणीं च अर्पितवतींसर्वस्वम्॥

मधुरमन्दहासिनीं नित्यमधुरभाषिणीम्।

सार्थकनाम्नीं सर्वांश्चजयं लक्ष्मीमिष्टवतीम्॥

सप्त सन्तानवत्यैव आदरवथ्यनाथम्श्च|

स्वसन्तानवत् सर्वेषांपस्यती समदृष्टिभिः||

श्रद्धया नित्यकार्येषुकैङ्कर्यवत् कृतवती।|

कर्मभक्तिर्योग्यिवार्पितवतीसर्वधर्मान्॥|

 

पतिपुत्रीपुत्राणांश्रान्तवती सुस्मितम्।

सर्वपाकोपहारं च नैपुण्यात्तेषां तृप्तये॥

स्वारोग्यं च सुखं त्यक्त्वापूर्तवती सर्वधर्मान्।

पतिपुत्राणां सुखायअर्पितवती तज्जीवनम्॥||

प्रतिमध्याहनकाले सापठितवतीतिहासम्।

गृहे महिलासङ्गे प्रोक्तवतीपुराणानि॥|

स्मराम्येकसम्भवं स्पष्टंच किञ्चिद्बालकः।

आगतो गृहं सप्ताहि भोजनार्थम्एकवारम्॥|

पिता न स्वीकृतवान्गृहे आसन् बहुजनाः।

तदविज्ञाय माता तं स्वीकृतवतीवत्सल्यैः॥||

विषयं पित्रा पृष्टासा प्रत्युक्तवत्यश्रुपूर्णा।

न खादाम्यहं ददामि तमित्येवतत्भोजनम्॥|

तदवसाने तस्मिन्नन्तेप्राप्तो गृहे वारद्वयम्?।

बोधितवती संस्कारं पुत्रीपुत्रेभ्यश्चस्वकर्मणा॥||

आरोग्यरुग्णसमये समान्यविशेषकाले।

कृतवती नियमितकर्माणिसकालं सद्भावम्॥

आजन्मान्तं परार्थेषुदत्तवती तज्जीवनम्।

कृतकृत्यं तज्जन्मानिमुक्तिमाप्ता प्रपत्त्या॥|

अनेकजन्मपुण्यैर्मेस्यातामिमौ मातापितरौ।

तयोरपि साक्षात् स्मरामिलक्ष्मीविष्ण्वोश्च स्वरूपम्॥

सा गतवती वैकुण्ठम्इत्यूचुः बुधवन्तः।

नाहं जानामि वैकुण्ठंन जानामि प्रवृत्तिम्॥|

गतवती न कुत्रापीतिभावयामि मे हृदये।

सदा जीवति सद्गतिं प्रबोधयत्यनुदिने॥

इदं जयं मे सौभाग्यंतस्या बोधनफलं च।

प्रथमं लिखितं, सदाहंभक्त्यार्पितो मात्रे॥

अर्पयामि धन्यवादान्मरगदम् अध्यायिने।

लिखितमसाध्यं विना तस्याःगीर्वाणबोधनम्॥
