If there was literal destruction there would be pralaya every time someone 
achieved mukti.  It is cognitive as you say.

If the jnani admits to the existence of other people, then he shouldn't 
object to their worlds.  In other words he should seek their welfare on 
their terms even though he knows they are delusional.
