Namaste Sri Subrahmanian Ji,
Reg << 'lens-grass' burning analogy
I am looking for the reference of an analogy used in the texts to show that
'svarupa jnanam does not directly annihilate avidya, but when directed
through a vritti, it does the job'. The analogy is: sun directly does not
burn a blade of grass but when directed through a glass/lens, it burns.
This analogy is in some prakarana grantha or vyakhyana. Any help in
locating the text is appreciated. >>,
The illustration is in the context of explaining that the self same
Consciousness can be the locus as also the annihilator of aj~nAna under
different circumstances. The nearest reference I could get immediately is
from Advaita Siddhi, pp 577.

<< Although Pure Consciousness is devoid of the destructive potentiality
of aj~nAna It receives the power of annihilating aj~nAna when It becomes
reflected in the mental mode. The rays of the sun illumine a piece of
cloth. But the same piece of cloth is burnt up when the same solar rays
become focussed upon it by means of a piece of convex lens. >>
