[Advaita-l] In praise of ISKCON?!

You need to see the skull beneath the skin. The problem I see is this: List
members may be able to take in what is good and leave out the chaff. But if
you take your kids to these talks and implicitly validate them, then later
they will come back on this list perhaps arguing "shankara was a demon",
"shankara was a vaishnava" etc. We have seen this many times on this very
list and previously in alt.hindu etc.

There is one guy who makes trips here on a regular basis from India. He has
a generic "for all people" talk about bhakti and a separate one for the
in-the-know srivaishnava-s where he talks about shankara was a vaishnava,
etc. Personally I have no interest in attending any of these. People keep
telling him about it's great to hear about bhakti, etc. My question is this
- after you listen a few times what more do you expect? Would it not be
better spending the two hours doing veda pArAyaNam or japam or something?
