Namaste
Whether these be musings or beliefs or conjectures based on the principle that the negative is more attractive than the positive, I wonder why the origin of Buddhism or Buddhist practices is not examined.
So, use of the word Dharma indicates Buddhist influence as does the word Sarana!
Buddhists do not believe in God or Veda but have temples, and of course the Sanatanis got those from Buddhists!
Ever wonder where the customs of Buddhism - ascetics, ochre robes, shaving of head, mantras etc. - are from? Sheldon Pollock and his ilk must be very happy!

This is a very interesting link : http://vinu-mythoughts.blogspot.in/2010/09/ayyappa-is-buddha.html
It is evident that Buddhism had a strong presence in Southern India similar to SE Asia(Sri Vijaya) and Sri Lanka. The sleeping/reclining buddha became Ranga sleeping casually on a serpent, Padmapani became Sarangapani and elsewhere became Dandayudhapani (Palani). Of course, all these are only musings.
