[Advaita-l] Linga Purana says Vishnu plucked out His eye and offered it in Siva Puja and got Sudarshana Cakra

Namaste

This is for my Srivaishnava and Gaudiya friends saying Siva is
inferior and should not be worshipped. I know Madhvas worship Rudra
Devaru also but they think He is inferior.


Linga Purana Chapter 98

The wonderful Siva Sahasranama is in this chapter. It is different
from the Sahasranama in Mahabharata. Vishnu worshipped Siva with this
Sahasranama by offering one lotus flower for every name.
सूत उवाच
Suta said

एवं नाम्नां सहस्रेण तुष्टाव वृषभध्वजम्॥
स्नापयामास च विभुः पूजयामास पंकजैः ।
In this way Vishnu pleased Siva whose flag is the Bull. Vishnu did
Abhisheka of Siva and worshipped with lotus flowers.

परीक्षार्थं हरेः पूजाकमलेषु महेश्वरः ॥
गोपयामास कमलं तदैकं भुवनेश्वरः ।

Siva the Lord of the Worlds hid one lotus flower from the Puja lotus
flowers to test Vishnu.

हृतपुष्पो हरिस्तत्र किमिदं त्वभ्यचिन्तयत् ॥
Vishnu was missing one lotus and thought 'How has it happened?'

ज्ञात्वा स्वनेत्रमुद्धृत्य सर्वसत्त्वावलम्बनम् ।
पूजयामास भावेन नाम्ना तेन जगद्गुरुम् ॥

Vishnu plucked out His own eye and offered it in the worship with
devotion to the Jagadguru Siva.

ततस्तत्र विभुर्दृष्ट्वा तथाभूतं हरो हरिम् ।
तस्मादवतताराशु मण्डलात् पावकस्य च ॥
Siva saw Vishnu in that condition without the eye and immediately
appeared in the Fire Altar.

ज्ञातं मयेदमधुना देवकार्यं जनार्दन ।
सुदर्शनाख्यं चक्रं च ददामि तव शोभनम् ॥

Siva said - I know You have to do the work of the gods. I will give
You the Sudarshana Cakra.

नेत्रं च नेता जगतां प्रभुर्वै पद्मसन्निभम् ।
तदाप्रभृति तं प्राहुः पद्माक्षमिति सुव्रतम् ॥

The Lord of the World Siva also gave back the lotus like eye to
Vishnu. From that time people call Vishnu Padmaksha or Kamalanayana.
