So, what was the outcome of 1960's debate?

Not known exactly :-)) according to one small book let ( which Sri 
chandramouLi prabhuji sent to me) it was kAryAlaya pundit (Sri vittala 
shAstri) accepted his defeat and did not rise any further question on 
mUlAvidyA, kAraNAvidya or bhAva rUpa avidyA in sushupti.  So shrungeri 
pundits (Sri Ramachandra shAstri etc.) are victorious :-))  There is one 
more subsequent book after this debate (title : mUlAvidyA vimarsheya 
vimarshe in Kannada)  which denies this claim and that book has been 
written by the same Sri vittala shAstri (later in sanyAsAshrama - Sri 
jnAnAnandendra saraswati) hints that there was almost acceptance of 
non-existence of mUlAvidyA in shankara bhAshya  by then shrungeri 
jagadguru HH Sri abhinava vidyA teertha swamiji :-))  Credentials of both 
of these works god only knows :-))
