We can recall the opening verse of the 4th chapter (अलातशान्तिप्रकरणम्) of
the GaudapAdakArikA:
For the words of the fourth quarter of the above verse Shankara comments:
// *अयमेवेश्वरो यो नारायणाख्यस्तं वन्देऽभिवादये द्विपदां वरं
Anandagiri, in the commentary to the above writes:
//आचार्यो हि पुरा बदरिकाश्रमे नरनारायणाधिष्ठिते नारायणं भगवन्तमभिप्रेत्य तपो
From the above we understand that Gaudapada had performed intense penance at
Badarikashrama and Lord Narayana, pleased with the tapas, blessed Gaudapada
with Knowledge.
